I went looking for a used bookstore. Either Google didn't tell me the right location for it, or I remembered wrongly by the time I got downstairs and outside. I walked around more than I intended, but wandered into the library. Very nice. Big. Open. I didn't go upstairs. They have books you can rent for 2$ a week if you don't want to wait in the hold queue. I thought that was a neat idea.

They had maps of Madison in there, so I picked one up. It nicely lists where all the bookstores are. I successfully found the one I wanted, 2 streets up from where I thought it was. Looks like they merged with another bookstore, but it's one I was in last year, so.. I don't think it was a recent move. I didn't find anything worth buying. I might have bought some Ace doubles they had in there, but they were way up on the top of the top shelf. And even with the step-ladder, I didn't think I could reach. I wasn't motivated enough to try. Oh, I also almost bought a decent copy of The Neverending Story, but it was 9$. I'm unlikely to change my mind on that.

There's another bookstore further up State Street. If I find myself halfway in that direction anyway, I might go later.

The Gathering has some interesting things. The Clothing Swap always appeals to me more in theory than in practice. The locksmithing table was crowded. That was a cool idea. Some interesting things in the Tiptree Auction. While I'm more likely to bid on a book, the other things are more interesting to look at. And probably more interesting to auction off as well. More entertainment value. Of course some books are conversation pieces by themselves.

I.. didn't see the cow-tipping. Hrm. I may've missed it.

I voted in the first round of the Con or Bust character faceoff, or whatever its official name is. They're doing a new round of voting every hour. That kind of inclines me to go back at least once more to vote again.

The galley table was surrounded, as always. They had a 10 book quota until 3pm. That almost had the opposite effect on me. In my mind I was counting down how many more books I could/should/would get. But I have walked away with only 5. Still, there's 2 hours left to The Gathering. I could go back down there and see the refreshed stock..

A ton of interesting panels start at 4... 4:15? Then there's a dinner break before opening ceremonies. In which I could eat free horseworks (hors d'oeuvres) and/or take a nap, rather than go to dinner with a group.

Just trying to make sure I'm both awake and headache-free for my 10:30pm panel. And there's charades after that. And that's if I don't even peek into any of the parties.

Hopefully I can sleep later than 6:30am (!!) tomorrow. Stupid fulltime job telling my body to wake up at the crack of dawn even when it doesn't need to.

I don't believe they did the cow tipping this year.

Do you know who ultimately won the con or bust? I never checked back in about that!
