Dollhouse

Why am I watching Dollhouse? Was last night's ep the supposed point where it gets awesome? Cuz it didn't get awesome. It got more disturbing.

Do I watch television to be challenged? No, not really. Not in the main. So you'd better be entertaining me while you're making me think in uncomfortable ways. And Dollhouse is entertaining me less and less.

What bothers me most is thinking that a large segment of the population may be watching this and thinking. 'Hey, hot naked chick!' 'Yea! Hot chick kicking butt and taking names!' 'Cool, sex!' And not realize just how disturbing it all is.

Where's the rape of the male dolls?

I have yet to figure out why my wife likes this show.
She particularly likes the "person on the street" pseudo interviews sandwiched in among the commercials with suposed viewers just like us [tm] saying things like: "I think that if they could make someone into your perfect person it could be very special" and "It's human trafficking and disgusting." (I had to watch some commercials so she could show me those.)
Me? I go downstairs and read a book until it's over.

Were they mixed in with the commercials? Possibly I wasn't paying close enough attention. I may've left the room a couple times on the commercial breaks too.

I liked what I saw of those okay, but it just reminded me of Dr. Horrible's, so it felt a bit like Whedon was repeating himself.

I whole-heartedly agree with you. I was taken aback by the violence and the characters. This was the first episode I had seriously watched. I saw almost all of it and had only seen a tiny bit of other ones. I was able to pick up the plot easily, it wasn't exactly a secret. But I found, as the hour progressed, that I was more and more disturbed by the "pretty" look, the overt objectification, and the raw violence of the orchestrated hand to hand combat, as if it were "cool." The rape aspect was distasteful. I'm glad I've not seen the other episodes and I doubt I'll see another.

It just makes me wonder... 'Does Whedon know what he's doing?' Because I really don't know. And even if there is something coming to redeem all this, it's quite possible Fox twisted it up and ruined it.

Because while I trust Whedon a little bit (less and less every episode), I trust Fox not at all.
