Is it Wednesday again already?

Today's question:

What type of character would you like to see more of in science fiction and/or fantasy?

Hm. Well, the first thing that comes to mind is "black," but that doesn't define anything beyond the surface. I really don't know, other than villains that make you love them. :)

Hmm. Good question. I like observers as POV characters, because it allows for an interesting voice, a certain amount of detachment, or a wholly uncritical involvement by turns. Unfortunately, they're a bit out of style right now. People want protags who protag. I also like kick-ass heroine type characters, preferably with some kind of fantastical power, in a setting that accomodates supernatural characters. Someone derided this genre (which, fortunately, proliferates) as female wish-fulfilment, which it may very well be. But so what? It's a fun read. The characters who profoundly irritate me are wimpy women needing rescue, or Mere Love Devices.
