Television Update

julieandrews"The Cape" is not nearly so bad as I expected it to be. It manages to be different and interesting and not always do what I think it's going to do. However, the cape itself is.. pret-ty darned silly.
"Harry's Law" is something I've so far only watched the pilot of. But it was also different and has this weird humor to it. Not enough shows starring a female lead, and that this female lead isn't known primarily for having big knockers is a plus. Also, she's not psychic in any way. Not that we really needed another law show, but.
"FaceOff" is SyFy's reality competition about makeup artists. Also interesting and a bit different. Although similar in format to Work of Art (which was also really good and I hope it comes back soon).
I've also been watching Auction Kings, Pawn Stars, Oddities, and American Pickers. And Hollywood something or other. These are all similar and all interesting in slightly different ways. Oddities is great if you like weird things in jars. Pawn Stars leans towards guns and cars/bikes. American Pickers leans towards cars/bikes and signs. Auction Kings seems to have a lot bigger mix.
"Gold Rush: Alaska" is like watching a train wreck. Over and over again.
"Biggest Loser" started again.
"Medium" ended. I watched the last episode without realizing it was the last episode until I got to the end and I'm like.. whaaaa. Who ends a show in the middle of January?
"Being Human" the US remake started on SyFy. I haven't watched it yet. Not sure if I should. I preferred the one-off to the subsequent series that got made. But at least the UK version has a certain dorky/geeky charm to the vampire and the werewolf that on first glance (shouldn't judge by appearances, shouldn't judge by appearances) seems to be lacking from the US version.
SyFy is also starting a Quantum Kitchen show soon. Hopefully also they'll be showing other shows I'd been hearing about for awhile. All reality-type ones.
I'd been trying to watch all of Star Trek: Voyager in order, but Spike screwed me by skipping a bunch and then stopping altogether.
So I thought I'd try watching all of Star Trek: Enterprise in order, but SyFy is even more screwy in all senses of the word.
"Brad Meltzer's Decoded" is interesting in that the host/head guy/Bosley dude is an author. And they cover some interesting conspiracy theory type things. Though they never conclude much.
"Stan Lee's Superhumans" on the other hand is boring as heck. Even though I'm a fan of Stan Lee from his superhero reality show on SyFy.
I know I've probably left some stuff out, but this will give you a general idea of what I'm watching, or not watching anymore.

And it's trying to have this awesome liberal message but delivering so poorly on what's realistic in a court of law that it borders on just plain silly. I'll check out one more episode before deciding for sure, but not sure I'm gonna keep watching.
I did the same thing with Medium! I was like ... wait... what are they doing, they can't... oh wait, is this the finale? I knew it was ending soon but I didn't realize HOW soon. At least the networks let them do a decent wrap-up episode. The CW did the same thing for Life Unexpected and it's finale also aired in January. I'm thinking networks are finally getting the hang of this whole let them have some time to make a final episode thing?? Or ... just wishful thinking on my part after two coincidences.
Being Human... I've only seen the first season of the UK version and loved it. Watched both eps so far of the US version and haven't decided yet. Some things I actually like more and some things less... not sure how it balances out yet.
Voyager!!!! Definitely worth watching all the way through in order if you can. :)

Date: 2011-01-30 10:23 pm (UTC)It's really odd they went with a US version of Being Human when SyFy took Doctor Who and Merlin straight. Then again, Merlin is definitely a British story and probably no one would let them do a US Doctor Who.
