Happy Inauguration Day, Everyone!
Jan. 20th, 2009 04:06 pmThis is going to be a quick post, as I'm still at work. I have class later, so I wanted to make sure I posted something today before I ran out of time completely.
Watched some of the live AP feed from http://www.ustream.tv/. Not the smoothest feed, but it gave me my first taste of what was going on. Then I caught the inauguration itself in the library theatre. That was pretty cool. Some applause in the theatre, but people were generally mindful it was a library, I think, so no loud cheering or anything.
The music was amazing. How did they keep those stringed instruments in tune and their cold fingers limber? (Don't tell me it was all finger-synced!)
Kind of surreal to wander into the theatre later to see people dining and nobody in the theatre watching. It was voyeuristic in a way that having a group of people watching it wouldn't have been. (Yea, I know that makes no sense.)
Then I watched some more of the feed online when we got to the parade. Which I thought was supposed to start earlier.
I'm jealous of all the people there, yet I'm sure I also would've been miserable in the cold and the crowds. Though at least it wasn't precipitating.
Oh, and check out http://www.whitehouse.gov/ if you haven't yet!
(Back to work now.)
(ETA 1/23/09: They did finger-synch! Well, sort of. They were actually playing, but what we all heard was a recording. I had been eyeing that violinist suspiciously. A long history of bad, fake violin-playing has made me hyper-aware (see Little House on the Prairie as example).)
