In two weeks, it's Banned Book Week. I was browsing the library display and noticed that most of the books were science fiction or fantasy. Or, at least, literary science fiction.

Was this just a fluke of the display, or is it true that a disproportionate number of banned books are science fiction or fantasy? Is it because science is perceived to be antithetical to religion? Are the fantasy books just too full of witches and dark magic? Or is sf/f where we find the more interesting, dangerous ideas?

And if it's true, is it only true of the US at this point in history? Or does it hold true for other countries and time periods?
