Open Question Wednesday #21

What's your favorite fictional book? That is, a book that only exists in a work of fiction.

Or, if you prefer..

What fictional book would you just love to read?

I was going to say The Neverending Story, but on second thought, I think I want So You Want to be a Wizard.

Probably Hyperion by Dan Simmons. But I'm more of a short fiction kinda guy. *g* What's your fave short story?

The long version of The Princess Bride. I love reading histories and descriptions of economies and so forth.

A lot of the books I read take place in the "real world", even if that real world is 200 years ago. So quite a lot of the books the characters talk about are real, if now obscure. I am occasionally inspired to go look at these books after reading about how amused the characters are by -their- reading. The Pickwick Papers, for instance, is very popular. Pilgrim's Progress is another. I did not find either fun to read.

As far as fictional books go, since [livejournal.com profile] palmetto has claimed The Princess Bride, I'm going to have to say it's a tie between Hogwarts, A History and the Hitchhiker's Guide.

Ooo, I completely forgot about The Hitchhiker's Guide!
