Arisia or Boskone?

I hear good things about Boskone as well, which is a month later. I probably shouldn't do both of them. Any advocates for one over the other?

Arisia is during the Martin Luther King long weekend, which means I could easily justify (to myself anyway) taking the 20th off to watch all the Inauguration festivities. I'd really hate to be stuck at work and missing most of the good stuff that day. I could even stay in Boston and do something big and social-like that day. Party, drink, jump in a reflecting pool, etc. Except that that's not me.

I'll be at Boskone!

It sounds to me like Boskone is more like Readercon in focus and Arisia has more media and gaming and etc.

So should I go to Boskone because I like in-depth writing/reading stuff? Or should I go to Arisia to get a media fix? Last media con I went to was a few hours at ComicCon during Clarion.

I really can't say anything about Arisia. But Boskone isn't like Readercon. Readercon is in a class by itself. Boskone is sort of like a mini Worldcon, I think. It had almost all the tracks, though I don't remember if it had gaming. It had a lot of costumes running around and an entire day of different forms of fighting.

A lot of names go to Boskone. I spent last year in networking activities. I think I didn't sit through an entire panel, though I was able to catch a couple of readings and see parts of panels. I didn't do the parties, so I can't say whether they were any good. I was constantly busy, but part of that was because Greg was there. He won't be there this year.

Boskone was the first con I ever went to and the one I've gone to most regularly, though I haven't gone since I crossed the line from "fan and aspiring writer" to "aspiring writer with good reputation and enough pro contacts to crash the SFWA suite" and I'm not sure how it'll hold up now.

Aiming to go this year if I have the money, but I probably won't know until the last minute whether or not I've got the money.

I'm still new to the partying and networking idea(s). I don't think I'm very good at either.
