Yes. I have no idea what the Great American Novel is, and why anyone would even care. I mean, I'm glad all these things exist, but they seem very irrelevant to me the reader. I look for books that will interest and entertain me, and I mostly don't notice who wins what. I'm more likely to rely on reccos from friends, or what looks interesting on a shelf or website.
You could argue that we're in the age of the woman writer. Readers skew female, and women are more likely to have a financially supportive spouse than men are, relevant because making a living from writing is like becoming a film star - some people do it, but the odds aren't terrific.
I personally think women who worry about critics and prizes are fighting the last war, not the next one.
